SURPRISE! Another new album!
Swimmers!
It is with great mirth, and a little girth, that I present to you: Black and Brue. This is a collection of songs I've been recording here and there over the past couple years. It's raw, like a sweet raw onion. Enjoy!
Safe swimming, see you in 2013,
Vincent

Update: Sandy/Mercury Lounge X-Mas Show/New Album
Swimmers!
We hope you all battened down your hatches and fared well through the storm, and continue to fare well in the aftermath. The past few weeks have been a nightmare for everyone in our area and all over the region. It's sad to see so many lives, homes and entire towns devastated by the storm. Overall we consider ourselves fairly lucky, but Lifeguard Nights HQ (aka Bruetown) flooded and there's pretty extensive damage throughout the first floor. Our percussionist PJ's house got hit even harder by the storm and lost basically everything. It sucks. Everything's falling apart, I'm over it, and at the moment there truly seems to be nothing left to live for....
...with one exception: The Annual Xmas Show which is taking place at the Mercury Lounge on Thursday December 20th. We'll be opening up for East River Bandits and Wormburner, and as always the night will be capped off with an all-star rock-and-roll Christmas-themed jammy jam. This show is quite literally the only thing stopping me from sucking on an exhaust pipe right now. I really hope you can make it.
http://www.mercuryloungenyc.com/event/176688
We'll also be celebrating the release of a NEW South Jersey Seashore Lifeguard Convention Band ALBUM at this show. It's titled "We're Having A Great Time" and as you may or may not know from reading this blog, we started recording it about two years ago at a house on LBI, which may or may not still be standing after Sandy. If I had to guess, it's not in a good shape. And that is sad, because that house was awesome and that was the best vacation of my life. Anyway I'll be putting the bandcamp link up soon when it's ready, and then you can hear it, and you will probably love it.

Vincent

Boo!
Swimmers!
Long time no nothing, how you been? Sorry for the radio silence of late but I assure you things are cookin' on the stove and soon you will feast like kings upon the succulent sounds of lifeguard lullabyes. In the meantime, Halloween is just around the corner so it's time once again to unleash our Halloween-themed masterpiece, "BOO" upon you. Here it is:
Scare your children with it. Or yourselves. Whatever you wanna do.
Stay tuned for news about some exciting gigs coming up and new albums and other wild stuff.

Mercury Lounge Set/Thanks/The Future
Swimmers!
Thanks to all ye who came out to the SJSLCB reunion at the Mercury Lounge last night, it sure was something! We played all these old hits:
Whiny White Boy
Beach Party
Disaster Area
Paradise
Where Roses Lie
We
Dark Side of the Pool
Night Patrol
Mexico
Wave Goodbye
I'll post pics and maybe video if any exists. The SJSLCB is going back on hiatus for a long, long time, although we do have a new album coming out in the fall entitled "We're Having a Great Time" which we actually started recording over two years ago at the house we rented in LBI. It's a party.
Lifeguard Nights will be back up and running soon though with all new hits, new recordings, some new players, and gigs. It's an exciting time for us all. Stay tuned, and safe swimming!

"The Last Summer" is here!
Swimmers!
Tomorrow night at 7:09 PM EDT, Summer begins. What better time to release Lifeguard Nights' latest and greatest album, THE LAST SUMMER.
Except instead of tomorrow night at 7:09 PM EDT, we're releasing it NOW. This album's been a couple years in the making and features contributions from some of my very best and most talented pals. It's a full-band album in the tradition of "The Church of Song" and "Punch Sky" in that we took songs that I had already recorded solo and went into Retromedia Studios to record the drums/bass/guitar/vocals live, then overdubbed the rest at my place. This is the last time we're going to be following that M.O., hence the name. We'll still be recording albums of course, but we'll be doing all new stuff and we'll be recording it all at our lovely new home studio.
Here's the link:
I hope you dig it like a moat around a sandcastle. Enjoy the summer, and safe swimming,
Vincent & Lifeguard Nights

Desmonds Thanks/Pics/Setlist!
Swimmers!
Thanks to everyone who came out to Desmonds a couple weeks ago for the SJSLCB reunion show! It was great playing those old songs with most of the old band (thanks Jay Sorce for sitting in on a few!) at our old stomping grounds to some old and some new friends. Hopefully we'll be doing these reunion shows a little more frequently than once every two years from now on. I only have a couple pics from the show at the moment but I hear there are plenty more gems out there, if anyone has some and could send them to me that'd be super, thanks! Here's the setlist (we had to skip a few cause we were running out of time):
swim children
sideways smile
bank account
serenity now
sandbox
paradise
disaster area --skipped
where roses lie
dark side of the pool -- skipped
wave goodbye
night patrol -- skipped
driving home with nipsy
mexico

"Darker Side of the Pool" Out Now!!!
Swimmers!
Holy crap it almost feels like Spring out there, ain't it great? You remember, that season we used to have, Spring? I think we might have one this year. We're pretty pumped about it. We're also pumped because we're releasing another new (old) album RIGHT NOW, "Darker Side of the Pool," the SJSLCB's "Dark Side of the Pool" outtakes. If you recall (and you probably don't because I'm talking to no one) "Dark Side of the Pool" was originally supposed to be a double album. But then things kinda fell apart and I ended up half-ass-ing it and putting it out as one album. But recently I went back and found all these gems (?) and decided to finish it all up. They're kinda different, and there's a good reason they didn't make it on the album, but I think there's some hot stuff here and the songs kinda work together in a nice way to make a quaint little oddball album. There's also a really long two part jam session which nobody really remembers. Enjoy it with a little LSD.
Anywho, here's the link to the album. It's a mere $5 and you get all sorts of goodies with the download. DO IT!
More fun updates coming soon! In the meantime, safe swimming,
Vincent

Valentine's Ball @ Stone Pony Friday 2/10!
Swimmers!
Lifeguard Nights will be making our first appearance of 2012 at the legendary Stone Pony on Friday, February 10th, opening up for The Gay Blades as part of their "Valentine's Ball"! It's our first time ever playing the Pony and we're thrilled. As usual we'll be doing some oldies and some newies, and the lineup will be the same as the Bowery Ballroom, with the addition of Hall O' Famer Dr. Ew Brady on keys and vocals. We're pumped!
Doors are at 7 but we go on at 8 PM SHARP! FOR REAL. They run a tight ship so be on time.
You can buy tickets DIRECTLY FROM US for a mere $10, all you have to do is send the 10 via Paypal to vebrue@msn.com and let me know your address and I'll mail them to you, or if it's close to the day of the show I can just meet you beforehand and give them to you in person. OR you can buy them online at the door for 12 bucks but that's dumb. Save your two bucks.
RSVP!

New album "Chapter 11" is here!
Swimmers!
Here is "Chapter 11," the 11th home-recorded Lifeguard Nights album. Technically I recorded it in 2010, but I've been sitting on it for a while. Eventually it said "Get the hell off me!" so here it is. At the moment, Bandcamp is the only place to buy this album and/or hear these songs. In an effort to save money and be environmentally-friendly, all of our future releases will be digital, and probably straight through Bandcamp.

Happy New Year!
Swimmers!
Happy 2012! We here in Lifeguard Land hope all your holidays were lovely! I promise this year will be much more productive than 2011, which was the first year since the beginning of time in which I did not release an album. I was working hard on new stuff, though, and you will hear that stuff very soon.
First up, I finally finished "Chapter 11" the 11th (see what I did there?) Lifeguard Nights home-recorded album. After that, the long-awaited "The Last Summer" album, the third and final Lifeguard Nights studio album featuring a wide variety of Lifeguard Nights All-Stars. I am also finishing up the "Dark Side of the Pool" outtakes, which will be it's own album, and The South Jersey Seashore Lifeguard Convention Band's "We're Having A Great Time", which we initially started recording Summer '11 at our LBI house. After that will be a new Lifeguard Nights album, tentatively titled "Black and Brue" featuring all brand spankin' new hits.
I'll also be finishing up the debut album from Ballroom (http://ballroomband.blogspot.com) which features former and occasionally current Lifeguards Steve Honoshowsky and Mike Biskup. That should be out in a couple months.
It's going to be a great year, stay tuned and safe swimming!
